(Wilmington, N.C.) Efficient Energy America (E2America), a leading supplier of building optimization technology, announced that longtime software industry executive Tom Looney has agreed to serve on the company’s newly formed Industry Advisory Board. As a former executive with Microsoft, Oracle, Active Software and NeXT Inc., as well as a leading advocate for Cleantech initiatives, Looney is uniquely positioned to help guide E2America’s success in the energy efficiency sector. Installed in leading restaurants, retail chains and other commercial buildings, E2America’s automated, self-refining, wireless, retrofit building control systems go far beyond traditional energy management technology to reduce electricity costs, usage and carbon emissions for commercial enterprises.

Looney retired from Microsoft in 2008 after serving several years as their Industry Director, Homeland Security and Public Safety industry unit for North America. Before joining Microsoft, Looney served in senior sales and business development leadership roles for firms like Oracle and Active Software, and worked closely with business icon Steve Jobs during six years at NeXT Inc.

In addition to Looney’s extensive experience in the software industry, he has also been an advocate for Cleantech projects and in 2010 was co-founding Vice Chair of the Cape Fear Economic Development Council in Wilmington, N.C. In this position, he co-authored a highly-regarded proposal to the N.C. Dept. of Commerce to establish a Cleantech Industry Innovation Center in downtown Wilmington. This proposal was part of his larger vision for a Cleantech Economic Cluster to become a strategic economic development priority in the region, and as a result of the projected major growth projected by experts for energy efficiency and renewable energy-related products and services. Last year, Looney was honored with the “Vision of a Green Wilmington” award at the annual Green Living Conference & Expo.

Regionally, Looney has served on several boards spanning industry, education, and non-profits. He co-hosts the popular N.C. 2.0 segment on economic development every week on the top-rated Curtis Wright Radio Show, 980 AM WAAV.

“By joining our Advisory Board, Tom Looney sends the strongest message to date about the quality of our high-value technology solutions at E2America, and the opportunities that exist for us to emerge as an industry leader in the energy efficiency sector,” said Dara O’Neill, E2America President & CEO. “Tom brings to us the unique perspective of an executive who has worked with iconic companies and entrepreneurs who have successfully transformed industries and the way the world works. He understands why and when enterprises invest in change and we believe his experience will translate immediately into accelerated market traction for E2America.”

“The interest and demand for high-value solutions in the Cleantech industry – including the energy efficiency sector where E2America is poised to become a national leader – reminds me of the early days of the personal computer and enterprise software markets, which I was fortunate to have been a part of since the early 80’s,” said Looney. “Today, the U.S. Dept. of Defense is the biggest customer in the world for energy efficiency. The military is historically committed to the right solutions that help meet their critical needs in mission execution, and private sector businesses are usually not far behind to retain and extend their market positioning. E2America already has a satisfied customer base, as well as a strong team and growth plan. Customers are saving tremendous money immediately after installing the E2America’s solution, and demand and excitement for the company are sky-high.”

About E2America

E2America’s intelligent building control, optimization and real-time reporting systems go far beyond traditional energy management systems to reduce electricity costs, usage and carbon emissions for commercial enterprises. The only fully-automated, wireless, retrofit technology to deliver cash-positive results from day-one and ROI within 18 months, E2America systems are installed in leading restaurant and retail chains, as well as other commercial buildings across the U.S. The E2America intelligent Smart Grid efficiency technology reduces energy consumption (kWh) and demand (kW) of each facility through management of the HVAC equipment, which draws the heaviest electrical loads. Each solution is custom designed and built for that particular application, and no training is required. Because the systems are entirely wireless, installation takes only hours. E2America is a Trade Ally with many utility companies, including Touchstone Energy Cooperatives, Progress Energy, Duke Energy, GreenCo and ElectriCities. The company is headquartered in North Carolina. For more information, visit www.e2america.com.
